MY Consulting Engineers Ltd (MYCE) is a young and progressive consulting engineering practice located in Nelson, New Zealand. We provide structural engineering advice and design, with experience across residential and commercial projects including carrying out seismic assessments. MYCE deliver a solution that is specific and suitable for the application.

Our Team
Michael Younghusband
Managing Director Principal Structural Engineer BE(Hons), CPEng, CMEngNZ, IntPE(NZ) / APEC Engineer |
Michael founded MY Consulting Engineers in 2016 and has since organically grown the company to what it is today. Michael prides himself on having an in-depth knowledge of all the projects the team at MYCE are working on. Michael knows what it takes to provide successful structural design services in a collaborative manner with other design consultants and construction contractors to bring a client’s vision and dreams to reality.
Michael graduated from the University of Canterbury in 2009 with a Bachelor of Engineering with Honours. Michael has substantial experience in structural design of new builds, alterations, additions, and assessments within the residential and commercial sectors, bringing vast knowledge gained from various projects he has worked on throughout New Zealand. Michael spent a considerable amount of time in Christchurch following the Canterbury Earthquakes. This included rapid inspections, property recovery operations in highly damaged structures, also initial and detailed assessments of buildings. Michael has spent some time in the UK where he worked on multi-storey modular projects based in the USA and Canada. His role was that of a senior design engineer where he project managed an in-house design and draughting team and was lead communicator with external design teams in Poland, the UK and USA/Canada. |
Daniel Langley
Structural Engineer ME, BEnv, MEngNZ |
Daniel moved to New Zealand in 2016 after completing his studies at the University of Melbourne in 2015, graduating with a master’s in civil engineering and a Bachelor of Environments. Having previously worked in Wellington, Daniel joined the MYCE team in 2020 moving to Nelson upon returning from overseas travels. He is passionate about innovative structural solutions and sustainable design.
In his spare time Daniel enjoys spending as much time in the water as possible, with surfing and free diving being the main drivers. |
John Massee
Project Structural Engineer BE(Hons), MEngNZ |
Originally from Napier, John graduated with a BE(Hons) in Civil Engineering at the University of Auckland in 2017. After graduating, John honed his structural engineering skills at a steel workshop in Nelson before joining MY Consulting Engineers in 2020 as a graduate structural engineer.
Outside of work John enjoys spending time in the mountains either mountain biking or rock climbing. |
Catherine van der Loos
CAD Technician |
Catherine joined our company in 2018 and has a genuine love of draughting with over 35 years’ experience across many draughting disciplines. Catherine has worked on a wide range of projects throughout NZ and the UK using AutoCAD, Revit, Vectaworks, and is currently using ArchiCAD collaborating with architects using ArchiCAD Teamwork.
Catherine has a keen interest creating fibre art, collecting antique sewing machines, the great outdoors and raising two teenagers. |
Tonie Cessford
Office Coordinator |
Joining our team in 2021 in a newly created role, Tonie comes to us with a multitude of skills and experience in office management, accounts, customer service and health & safety. Tonie has a passion for design and systems, so in addition to the day-to-day administration / accounts tasks she also focuses on the creation, design, review and updating of systems, procedures, and documents.
Tonie has a love of nature and likes to get outdoors and visit the stunning locations that our region / country has to offer. |
